"Set in nine acres of gardens, paddock, woodland and meadow this substantial home extends to approximately 2,500 square feet. Set down a no through road and within walking distance to Woodwalton Fen Nature Reserve. A sweeping drive with lawns to either side leads to the house, timber cabin which is currently used as a hobbies room and detached double garage. The accommodation is well presented throughout and includes two large reception rooms, study, conservatory and kitchen breakfast room with utility. There are four good sized bedrooms, two with en suites and dressing room and a family bathroom. There is also a selection of out buildings including a large open ban, shed/workshop, summer house, shed and greenhouse. Nearby Ramsey offers excellent amenities while Huntingdon has further amenities including a mainline station with commuter services into London Kings Cross.
?When we first viewed the property, we realised that, that the main feature of the house was its setting, in that it was set well back from the very quiet road, with what we saw as potential to make a beautiful garden. The setting also gives beautiful views in all directions as far as Peterborough and Whittlesey to the north and across fields to Upwood and Alconbury in other directions.
Although there was some work to be done inside, we had found the ideal place to indulge our love of the outdoors,? says Janet. ?The house is unique due to its location as it?s at the end of a lane and our neighbour is the Woodwalton fen, which is the start of the Great Fen Project! There are a couple of arable fields between us and the Fen and it?s very quiet and peaceful. You can walk in the fen, along the bridleways and pathways and enjoy the scenery and wildlife.?
?I was looking for a property with enough land to bring my goats with me, at one point, I had 18,? says Janet, ?So this was ideal; I had my own hayfield and the little woodland which is full of wildlife including an owl, rabbits and muntjac deer. We even had a Chinese water deer peer in the window only the other day!?
?Although we are right in the countryside, we?re only a short drive from Ramsey, which is about 5 miles away. There?s a Tesco and a range of shops including a butcher and a bakery. There?s also very nice coffee shops, pubs, banks, hairdressers, Post Office and 2 golf courses,? says Janet.
?I love gardening and spend a lot of time outside. When we first moved in, the garden needed a lot of work as it was wild, basically just a field! So, I got digging and we now have a beautiful garden bursting with various trees including apple, pear, plum, apricot, fig and peach. We grow our own veg too in the garden and polytunnel.?
?St Ives is only 11 miles away and I go there often. It?s so pretty and there are lots of coffee shops and nice places to shop. I also enjoy walking along the banks of the Great River Ouse watching the boats and the swans. There?s also a bus which takes you to the centre of Cambridge in just under half an hour.? In the other direction Peterborough is only 12 miles away.
?My favourite rooms are the sitting room and the main bedroom ,? says Janet. ?We have a lovely window seat in the sitting room and I like to sit there, just looking out over the garden and fields. We see lots of birds and it?s so relaxing to sit and leaf through a magazine.?
?We also have a summer house in the garden and we love to sit here with a cup of tea watching the moorhens on the side pond.?
?When I?m not gardening, I like spending time in the wood cabin that I call my Sewing Cabin,? says Janet. ?It?s usable all year round and I do all of my sewing in here.?
?We?ll miss a lot of things about living here, especially the garden and the wood cabin, open space and views. After being here for 20 years we have decided to downsize.? says Janet.
