" With the view to build a striking modern home, the current owners could not believe their luck that they landed on a plot of land in such a perfect location. It's not often that a plot comes up for sale in a secluded cul-de-sac of just three other houses that has gorgeous views over Whitstable and sea, but this is exactly what they found. As soon as the land was theirs, they immediately enlisted the help of an experienced architect and designed their dream property. And for the past year and a half, they have been the proud owners of an individually designed, eco-friendly family home on the British South Coast. As you would expect, a great deal of the property has been designed to make the most of its picturesque surroundings. The exterior of the house is no exception: spotless white walls, a shore pine tree and timber wooden fences are just some of the features that mirror its coastal setting. This juxtaposition of contemporary wooden features against crisp white walls continues through the inside of the house. In the kitchen, for example, oak flooring and a glossy replica wood island unit and cabinets contrast with the cream granite worktops and white cupboards. The same can be said for the living room, which has an inbuilt floor-to-ceiling impression in a plain white wall that houses stacks of wood for the stove. You'll also find huge windows throughout the property which take advantage of the beautiful views across Whitstable's blue sea, and welcome in swathes of natural light. With so much natural light filling all the rooms, it looks so fresh and inviting all year long. There's no points for guessing which room the owners love the most; it is, of course, the open plan kitchen, dining room and sitting room. With all three rolling into one, the room could have been in danger of feeling like one expansive space, but it has been so cleverly divided into zones that each space has its own mood. Tucked around the corner, the kitchen is separated from the living room by a wall spanning just part of the width of the room and is distinguished from the dining room by a long island and breakfast stand. Marked by three identical, low-hanging feature lights, the dining area is clearly defined. And the lounge area has a single light in the centre for a cosier feel. How about a favourite feature for the favourite room? Well it has to be the cream-coloured, double-sided wood-burning stove that transforms the room into the snuggest of havens during the chilly winter months. Beyond the huge Bi-Folding doors in the kitchen and dining area, there's a seriously stylish, low-maintenance garden. The patio is a real feature; it's made from granite, has a chic split slate wall and has wide steps that lead down to the rest of the garden. From the patio, you can see across Whitstable all the way down to the sea, and when relaxing on with a cool drink on a hot summers day, it's pure bliss. Altogether, the garden has an almost tropical feel with palm trees and a wooden hot tub. In the evening, feature lighting illuminate the steps, the slate wall and the palm trees, transforming the space into something truly special.
