Location Plaxtol is one of the most scenically beautiful parts of Kent, occupying a picturesque rural location nestling in the folds of the Bourne Valley just south of Sevenoaks and the A25 and to the west of Tonbridge, with a local history dating from the Roman occupation - the statuette of Minerva, Roman Goddess of War and Wisdom, uncovered in a archaeological dig of a Roman villa in Plaxtol in 1857 is the emblem of the village. Plaxtol retains the feel of a traditional Kentish village with a local store and post office, cricket club, florist and a public house and restaurant ' The Papermakers Arms' occupying a prime mid-street location. The Parish Church is active and the lively Memorial Hall offers many community events, including the Local History Group, Plaxtol Men's Society, WI, Plaxtol Players and the Youth Group. The Primary School, in the heart of the village and the next door Nursery school which is well catered for in the Memorial Hall are both well supported and offer excellent early learning experiences for children. The major towns of Tonbridge and Sevenoaks both offering superb shopping facilities including Waitrose, Sainsbury's and M&S, and a fine selection of eateries as well as main line stations with frequent service to London Charing Cross, London Cannon Street and the South Coast are five and seven miles respectively. Closer still for local shopping is Borough Green, which also has a main line station to London Victoria, and York Parade on the near-side outskirts of Tonbridge with a well stocked local Sainsbury's branch. The major A21/M25 arterial routes can be accessed within seven miles and the M20 to London and the key ports of Folkestone and Dover, within eleven miles.

Excellent private and state educational facilities abound in the area as the village is within range of nationally recognised grammars including Tonbridge Girls' Grammar and Weald of Kent Grammar School for Girls in Tonbridge with a newly opened annexe in Sevenoaks, and the Judd school in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for boys and the Skinners school in Tunbridge Wells - there are bus services to all of these with the bus stop within a few minutes walk. Knole Academy in Sevenoaks, with its internal grammar streaming system is also a popular choice. The private sector includes Hilden Grange ,Hilden Oaks, Somerhill and Kent College, also Sevenoaks New Beacon and Sevenoaks Preparatory as well as Sevenoaks School.
There are many delightful footpaths in the immediate area providing access to interesting and historic locations including Old Soar, the 13th century manor house that crests the hill beyond the village; Ightham Mote in the nearby hamlet and the village of Shipbourne renowned for its weekly quality Farmers Market and the Chaser Inn, a popular Gastro-pub built alongside the little gem of Shipbourne Church by the Cazalet family in 1880, owners of the impressive Fairlawne estate which crowns the hill of Plaxtol village and whose scenic grounds can still be enjoyed by the public via recognised footpaths.
