Location The historic harbour town of Fowey has long been considered as one of Cornwall's most picturesque and charming settlements. With a myriad of character cottages bordering the deep waters of the rivers estuary and the winding, narrow streets that bisect them, it is no wonder why the town has long held a significant draw to not only the sailing community but also renowned artists and an abundance of visitors year round. Hanson Drive, however, is situated just outside of the town centre in an elevated position between Fowey and Readymoney; yet within a pleasant walking distance of both if you can conquer the sloping hill that provides not only the breathtaking views but also the Southerly aspects that soak up the year-round sunshine.

. The novelist Daphne Du Maurier came to Fowey in her early twenties and immediately fell in love with the town, living for many years at Bodinnick where her parents bought a house in 1926. It was here she wrote 'The Loving Spirit', which was published in 1931. Today the Du Maurier Festival is an important annual event in the Fowey social calendar. In the summer months Fowey is a haven for sailors with the Royal Fowey Yacht Club and the Gallants Sailing Club at opposite ends of the main street; both overlooking the harbour and moored yachts, and both playing host to regular racing. The harbour has all the activity of a busy working harbour with ships of nations entering and leaving the harbour. Car and passenger ferries link the nearby Bodinnick and Polruan with Fowey, and run constantly during daylight hours providing easy access to the town's shops and other amenities.
