" Willow Bank was constructed in the late 19th Century as an extension to Willow House and later converted to a separate dwelling in the 20th Century. It has an interesting history including being the dormitory for Halliford School, evidence of which was found during its renovation. It has all the hallmarks of the classical architecture of the period with a painted stucco fa?ade edged by Gibbs work quoins and heavy dentilled coursing to the first floor over the large sash windows which are symmetrically set over ground floor full height drawing room casement doors. This is a home of two distinct halves that whilst being markedly different, work to form a very comfortable and practical layout. Step through the front door into the hallway with its classic geometric tiled floor and polished hardwood balustrade and you know that you are in for a treat. To the front is the delightful drawing room that is perfect for entertaining, retaining many of its elegant architectural features including the high corniced ceiling, stripped wooded floorboards and open marble fireplace. The room is flooded with natural light provided by three sets of casement doors with glazed fanlights and shutters. The two front sets face south and open onto the walled garden and those to the side lead into a hardwood framed conservatory. On the other side of the hall is a formal dining room which would make a dramatic setting for a dinner party with its high corniced ceiling, tiled inlayed cast iron fireplace and twin sash windows. Our clients extensively restored the property in 1997 including the replacement of a semi-vaulted pitched roof over the later rear addition. The section over the kitchen/family room is inset with two enormous roof lights and with its height, gives the room a tremendous sense of volume. This portion really is the heart of the home and has a wonderful relaxed bohemian feel, fitted out in a simple manner that contrasts with the formality of the rest of the house. The flagstone floor retains what was a former well, now dry and brick lined, and would make a good wine store. Beyond is a quiet study, guest cloakroom, separate Turkish style shower room complete with a heated floor and bench seat, and a utility room that leads to a large integral garage.
To the first floor is a landing with a large lantern window that gives access to four bedrooms. The master bedroom retains its character and has attractive southerly views over the garden and an en-suite 4-piece bathroom. There are two further double bedrooms and a large single. The sweet little family bathroom is appointed with a period suite including a very traditional slipper bath. Council Tax: Band G "
