PLANNING PERMISSION:

Planning Permission was granted on the 26 January 1989 for the use of the existing Water Tower as a dwelling with detached garage. We have confirmation that the development of the Water Tower was commenced and that Planning Permission has been activated, copies of the correspondence dated the 16 May 1997 are available. Within that letter an indication from the Planning Department was given at the time that a proposal to convert the Tower into three flats may be likely to gain Planning Permission (you would have to make your own investigations in this matter).

Consideration may be given to accept a conditional offer subject to planning consent being granted for a alternative detached dwelling . More details on application .

DESCRIPTION:

This sandstone Tower is built in the Romanesque Revival Style constructed of nine sandstone masonry piers arranged in a square plan. On each side are two narrow full height Romanesque arches, all with stepped surrounds and arch bands. It is believed that the Ormskirk sandstone was probably excavated from nearby Ruff Wood.

The Tower stands at a height of approximately 17 metres (56 feet), originally the stonework was surrounded by a metal water tank with a pitched slate covered roof which added an extra 6.2 metres (20 feet) to the height of the structure. The tank was believed to have been removed in the early 1990's.

The property was originally constructed in 1854.

For health and safety reasons it will not be possible to access the interior of the building. Full details of the current planning application are available online or from the Agents at sales@brighousewolff.demon.co.uk, along with a historical structural report.
