" An ideal residence for the equestrian enthusiast situated on a plot of just under 4.3 acres. A detached three/four bedroom home with a gated entrance that was originally built in the early 1900s and has been extended & refurbished and includes an outstanding brick built stable block, menage and garaging

Proceeding along Spa Road and under the railway bridge and turn left into Greensward Lane. Take the second unadopted road on the right after the barn.

'Highfield', describes extremely well, the position of this property, standing on elevated ground with outstanding panoramic views over Hockley and beyond to the undulating countryside. The house is at the end of a no through lane and amongst 4.2 acres of garden and paddocks. But for all its peaceful and secluded location, the house is just one mile from Hockley and the local shops.

"We have lived here for ten years and it couldn't have been a more ideal place for us, our little boy and all our animals," says the owner. "One of the first things we did on moving in was to build a fantastic set of six stables complete with a tack room, toilet, feed room, sink and running water. We also installed a floodlit manege which was wonderful, because it meant I could ride whatever the weather and into the evening all year round. Living here is like being in the middle of nowhere, yet we are close to excellent transport links, especially with Hockley station a short drive or 20 minutes' walk away.

"Finding a property with land for horses was always our top priority," says the owner. "But I also feel having a house I loved from the start was a huge bonus. The original part dates back to the turn of the last century and when we moved here it needed a tremendous amount of work." The owners were more than prepared to take on the challenge and have extended the house creating a four bedroom family home. "From the start this felt a very happy home," continues the owner. "The first night we lived here I felt as if I'd finally come home."

'Highfield' has been carefully refurbished over the years and from the entrance hall a solid wood staircase leads up to the first floor bedrooms and family bathroom. The open plan kitchen dining room has been finished to a high standard with painted oak doors on the units and hevea rubberwood surfaces. The dining room is also open plan to the large sitting room, which from the bay window has spectacular views of 180 degrees. Downstairs there is also a study. The house has been decorated with neutral colours and this, combined with so many windows makes a very light property.

From the house you step out into the garden which is about an acre. There is a large patio and flat lawn and at the front of the property are some mature oak trees framing the house. There are a number of shrubs and it is clearly an area the owners have enjoyed both as a family, and when they're entertaining. Within the grounds there is also a garage with a car port. The stables can be seen from the house and beyond that are the paddocks.

The centre of Hockley is a short drive away from 'Highfield'. There is a good range of local shops, supermarkets, the library, doctors' surgery and the train station, which has fast services into London Liverpool Street taking about 40 minutes. The A127 is about 10 minutes' drive and the closest large town is Southend-on-Sea for a comprehensive shopping centre.

"We have really enjoyed living here," says the owner. "We've had an idyllic lifestyle and the views still make me catch my breath. The ambience of this property is hard to describe but easy to feel, and if I could I would pick this house up and move it brick by brick."
