" Believed to date from the 16th Century this delightful thatched country cottage is quietly situated on the edge of the attractive village of Stogumber. Set in 2 acres of gardens this historic cottage provides substantial accommodation which has been sensitively modernised to retain its full character.  

Originally three cottages Purseys has been skilfully converted to provide a comfortable family home with a range of original features. The main orientation of the house is to the south giving most rooms excellent light. On the ground floor there are two reception rooms both with inglenook fireplaces and wood burning stoves.  The lounge has a beamed ceiling and feature porthole window. The kitchen / breakfast room is light and modern but retaining its beamed ceiling and Aga cooker set in an Inglenook fireplace.  In addition there is a study, utility room and cloakroom.  The first floor has 4 bedrooms (3 double), family bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe.  The master bedroom has an impressive beamed ceiling and en-suite shower room.

The house is set in 2 acres of landscaped gardens.  The current owners have planted 65 trees creating a small arboretum.  There is also a nursery orchard and wildflower meadow. The garden boasts wonderful views over the surrounding countryside and to the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a sun trap patio area in front of the house and a stand alone garage. 

Situation

Purseys is located on the edge of village of Stogumber and adjoins open countryside.  The property backs onto a quiet lane and is within sight of the village cricket pitch.  Stogumber is an attractive village set in a valley between the Quantock and Brendon hills.  The village has a predominance of older character properties and includes a village shop, pub, Norman church and excellent primary school.  Williton 4 miles away has a full range of facilities and Taunton (12 miles) gives access to the M% and a fast train service to London (from 1hr 40mins).
