Description

" Believed to be one of the three oldest properties in Whitstable, this special Grade II Listed house has come onto the market for the first time in 58 years. It includes wonderful external and internal features including a Kent peg tiled roof, mullioned multi-pane casement, angled and bay windows, vast chimney stacks, an oak framed porch and a panelled and studded front door as well as exposed ceiling and wall beams including 14th15th century ships timbers, inglenook and brick fireplaces and an oak staircase.

The early Georgian part of the property includes an attractive dining room with a D-shaped brick fireplace, while the fascinating drawing room has a large inglenook fireplace, an archway to the newer extension and original vertical beams open to the 15th century lounge. This has the ships timbers, an inglenook fireplace and log burner, an external door and access to the bespoke, dual aspect kitchen with a breakfast bar and built in appliances. The extension is double height with parquet flooring, a huge loft space, a door to the utility and shower room and an external door, so could become a separate annexe. The staircase leads to the landing with access to the family bathroom and three double bedrooms while the second floor includes two bedrooms with vaulted ceilings that lead into each other.

The flint walled garden includes a paved terrace and a gate onto Joy Lane, a raised decked patio, flint and brick summerhouse and a pathway winding around trees, flower and shrub beds to a circular patio and the detached garage and driveway with double gate access from Joy Lane. However, it could be possible to convert the garage into separate accommodation, subject to planning.

What the Owner says:

This has been our family home for the past 58 years and it has been a very special place in which to grow up. But sadly for health reasons we now have to move. We love the features and quirky nature of the house and enjoy the garden. It is close to the bus stop and less than a mile from the centre of Whitstable with its seafront, historic harbour, individual shops, bars, cafes and restaurants as well as a mainline station where the high speed train can take you to St Pancras in an hour and 15 minutes.
