The Mouseprice.com Annual Street Rankings Survey 2007 today reveals that the most expensive street in the South West of England is Western Avenue, with an average property value of over one and a half million pounds. Western Avenue is located in the BH13 area of Poole, where the average property value throughout the postcode district is £482,122. This area also accounts for almost one fifth of the most expensive streets in the South West. Neighbouring postcode district BH14 also contains 9 of the 100 most exclusive streets in the South West, with Pearce Avenue, Elms Avenue and Garden Crescent in the Top 10, all with average property values of well over £1 million. Both postcode areas are on the coast and yet close to the centre of Poole.
The South West covers a vast area and the most expensive streets vary in location. However, the most expensive streets in the South West all follow a pattern – they are predominantly located in the central suburbs of the historic spa towns or charming coastal towns of the South West, specifically Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, Dartmouth, Poole and Salcombe.
In the Bath area, the postcode districts with the highest proportion of expensive streets are BA1 and BA2, located around Central Bath, with easy access to ‘A’ roads leading out of the city. Similarly 7% of the most expensive streets fall around central Cheltenham, and in the Bristol area, the adjoining postcode districts of BS8, BS9, and BS20 account for a high proportion of the most exclusive areas in the region in which to live. This is unsurprising though as these postcode districts all have easy access to the city centre to their east, and coastline to their west. Further south on the south west coast, we again see a higher concentration of exclusive streets centred around Falmouth. Finally, near Dartmoor, we see the highest concentration of the expensive streets in TQ6, TQ7 and TQ8, encompassing Salcombe and Dartmouth.
