The Mouseprice.com Street Rankings 2007 today reveal that the most expensive street in the East Midlands is ‘The Ridgeway’, with an average price of £1,182,533. However, Mouseprice.com is not the first to spot the importance of the street, as four of its properties have already been registered as listed by the Charnwood Local Council.
Our number one street for the East Midlands, The Ridgeway, located in the village of Rothley in Leicestershire was built at the turn of the twentieth century (1901). During it’s construction, the builders unearthed signs of a much earlier prosperous residence – that of a Roman Villa, revealing the floor, foundations and underfloor heating of the home. This country villa is now believed to have been on a similar scale to Chedworth Villa in Gloucestershire. It is also thought to have included the working estate of a Romano-British family. There is no sign of the roman villa now but it is evident that this street has inherited the area’s historic prosperity.
The Mouseprice.com rankings also show that Beeston Fields Drive (the second most expensive street) has average values of over a million pounds. Six per cent of the top 100 streets in the East Midlands have average values of over three-quarters of a million pounds, whilst every street in the Top 100 has an average value of half a million.
As for the rest of the East Midlands, it seems to be the hills coming out on top, with Warren Hill, Knights Hill, Adams Hill and Oxton Hill all making it into the top twenty.
